GeM is a dynamic, self-sustaining and user-friendly portal for making procurement by Government officers. GeM – General FAQs

I forgot my password to access the GeM portal; how can I reset it?

Please follow the following steps to reset your password on the GeM portal:

  • Kindly visit https://gem.gov.in/ and click on Login,
  • Click on the “Forgot your Password” link,
  • Enter your User Id; kindly note that User Id is case sensitive,
  • Type the characters displayed in the captcha box, press SUBMIT,
  • An E-mail will be sent to your registered E-mail ID with a link to Reset password,
  • Click on Reset Link in your E-mail, and Enter a new password and confirm the same; Press SUBMIT.


Kindly note that your Password must be 8-20 characters- 1 upper case letter, 1 lower case letter, number, and a special character.

What could be the reason for variation in prices between GeM and other Marketplaces?

The variation in retail price and GeM Price of a product could be due to under mentioned factors.

  • The price offering on GeM is inclusive of all taxes.
  • Product on GeM may have a different warranty period.
  • An onsite warranty is offered for some products on GeM.
  • Prices could also vary due to the Payment Terms of the transaction.

Why am I unable to see the seller’s name in the market while searching for a product on GeM?

To avoid biases in selecting a seller for a particular purchase, the seller’s name is no longer disclosed on GeM until the Buyer makes a purchase decision.

Is the PAC option available for purchase through OEMs only, or Resellers can also participate?

Yes, PAC purchases can be made from OEMs and Resellers.

What are the minimum delivery days during direct purchase?

The minimum and the maximum number of delivery day(s) may vary, specific to the product and service category.

What is a concession on GST?

Certain Buyer organizations are eligible for a concession on GST if goods for which bids have been invited fall under the classification of GST concession and the conditions for eligibility of concession are met by the institution.

Why is the Buyer asked to choose between Direct Purchase or Bid/RA when the ‘Add to Cart button clicks?

This option is given to Buyers to understand their Intent of Buying so that Buyers can select and verify values for Golden Parameters to create Bid as per the specific requirement for procurement. For more info, please click on the document link.

When would the Buyer claim concession on GST?

The Buyer would specify the concessional rate of GST while publishing the Bid. The concessional rate of GST, the relevant govt notification number and date would be mentioned in Bid Terms and conditions.

Where can a buyer find innovative Startup products/services?

Buyers can view the list of shortlisted innovative products/services on Startup Runway corner and request the same for Trial.

What’s the grievance redressal mechanism on GeM?

In case of any grievance related to deviation/concern related to sellers, the buyer can raise an Incident. Kindly refer to the “Incident” tab under FAQ for more details.
